NTA To Provide 3 Digit Shortcodes to Financial Service Providers

NTA will provide 3 digit shortcodes to financial service providers. A recent board meeting of NTA has decided it will allow the digital financial institutions to utilize either USSD or SMS shortcode.

To acquire the shortcode service, the financial service providers must obtain a permit from the federal bank Nepal Rastra Bank. The institutions such as banks, micro-finances, or cooperatives must produce the service approval permission at NTA to proceed with the shortcode service.

If any digital financial service provider wants to utilize the USSD or SMS shortcode service, they will require to coordinate with the telecom operators and seek approval at NTA.

The format of the shortcode will comprise of 5 English numbers where the last two digits will stand for the federal bank-approved financial service provider.
