Government-backed mobile wallet Namaste Pay has joined the Fonepay network which will allow its users to pay for goods and services with an easy QR scan. Both companies reached an agreement at an event in Kathmandu.
Diwas Kumar Sapkota, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Fonepay, and Prabin Raj Pokharel, CEO of Namaste Pay signed the MoU in the presence of representatives from both companies. Several media personnel also witnessed the historical moment firsthand.
Their collaboration means Namaste Pay users will be able to pay at Fonepay merchants through a QR code within the digital wallet app, a feature that had been missing till now. Already, major mobile banking apps and elite digital wallets such as eSewa and Khalti have integrated their payment system with Fonepay’s interoperable network.
Fonepay is Nepal’s largest payment network. Namaste Pay, on the other hand, is a growing digital wallet. It is jointly operated by Nepal Telecom (NTC) and Rastriya Banijya Bank (RBB).

Namaste Pay and Fonepay cooperation to elevate digital payment experience of users
Both the CEOs of Fonepay and Namaste Pay expressed their delight at the cooperation between the two fintech companies. Fonepay CEO Diwas Kumar Sapkota said, “We are delighted to welcome Namaste Pay into our growing payment ecosystem. This partnership aligns with our vision to provide a comprehensive digital payment experience to our users. By integrating Namaste Pay, we offer our customers a wider range of payment options and foster a more inclusive financial ecosystem.”
Likewise, Namaste Pay CEO Prabin Raj Pokharel commented, “We are extremely happy to join hands with Fonepay and enable Namaste Pay users with access to 1.2 million Fonepay Merchants throughout the country. Namaste Pay users can also benefit from other Fonepay services with this partnership. We also look forward to making our customers’ digital journey smooth with our innovations and value-added services”

The partnership between Fonepay and Namaste Pay allows smartphone users to make instant and secure mobile payments through the secure payment channel of the former.
Fonepay, the largest PSO in Nepal, has over 12 lakh merchants across Nepal.
