What Is Cloud Computing? All You Need To Know About It.

In general terms, cloud computing is the process of storing, retrieving, and manipulating data over the internet instead of local storage. At present times, we can hear a lot about cloud computing thanks to it’s huge advantage.

It is the on-demand availability of computer system resources, mainly data storage and computing power without direct active management by the user.

Myth vs Reality

For starters, let’s be clear that no cloud is involved in Cloud Computing. It’s all about the different servers scattered across the globe where data is stored and applications are deployed.

There is also another myth that Cloud computing is only used for storing data. In fact, this is only half of the truth. Cloud storage is actually responsible for storing data. Applications like Google Drive, Dropbox allow you to store data on the internet.

Cloud computing is used for a variety of different purposes which we could possibly think of like deploying the application, hosting the website, maintaining databases of the organizations etc. Here are some cloud service providers:

History of Cloud Computing:

The term cloud computing has been around since the 2000s when the concept of sharing computer storage had emerged.

It really took off really well as the emergence of Software as a Service(SaaS) platforms like Amazon Web Services began to establish.

Advantages:

  • Cloud storage allows security and backup of your data.
  • At a very low cost, you could run things very easily in Cloud Computing.
  • You don’t have to worry about maintaining the data as cloud storage providers would do that for you.
  • The organizational cost would cut off exponentially as you don’t have to employ a separate team for maintaining the data.
  • It’s a win-win situation for both service providers and individuals/organizations who use the service.
  • Data Encryption is achieved, so the a very low possibility of misuse of data.

Uses:

  • High-end gaming
  • Storing bulk data
  • Use software that is not installed on your computer.
  • Use applications like photoshop online.

How does Cloud Computing work?

Companies can rent access to anything from applications to storage from a cloud service provider rather than owning their own computing infrastructures and data centres.

Companies can avoid the upfront cost and complexity of owning and maintaining their own IT infrastructure as they could simply pay for what they use when they use it. Cloud computing services could also benefit from significant economies of scale by providing the same services to a wide range of customers.

Scope

Cloud computing is already very popular among the top organizations in the world and the popularity doesn’t seem to fade away. It is here to stay as more and more individuals and organizations are shifting towards it due to it’s huge advantages which we have already talked before. Modern technologies like IoT, AI tend to use this technology due to it’s reliability which makes it even more likely to dominate market in coming days.
