Nepal Premiere League (NPL), the debut season of Nepal’s domestic T20 league will be broadcast live on Star Sports. The news of the popular TV network bringing fixtures live has pleased the sport’s avid fans in Nepal.
Parash Khadka, the secretary of the Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) shared that Star Sports will broadcast Nepal’s NPL franchise T20 cricket league. He said that the organization is paying the Indian broadcaster to run the matches live on its network.
The much-anticipated cricket league is starting November 30, 2024 and has 8 franchise teams competing from various cities and provinces. The teams are: Biratnagar Kings, Janakpur Bolts, Karnali Yaks, Kathmandu Gurkhas, Lumbini Lions, Pokhara Avengers, Sudurpaschim Royals, and Chitwan Rhinos.
Sharing the news of NPL 2024’s broadcasting partner, the former skipper said, “It’s great to bring NPL on Star Sports. Getting a slot was really difficult,” emphasizing that paying the TV network is fruitful for the future, he added, “We want to show our T20 cricket to the world. We can’t lure big names without showing the matches on Star Sports.”

NPL on Star Sports
So, Nepali cricket fans will get to watch the cricket fixtures on Star Sports, a TV channel they are accustomed to for all cricket and other sports being in a South Asian region. However, Khadka didn’t share whether Star Sports will only broadcast the matches or also produce it.
Section of Nepali fans are eager to know whether they will get to watch the match in high details with dozens of cameras that pick matches from different angles. If Star Sports also produces the events, that will meet the demands of the fans. Only time will tell about the extent of Star Sports’ involvement in NPL T20 2024.
But there will be a local broadcaster too. Khadka said that CAN will soon announce the local TV broadcaster for the competition.

CAN has roped in Siddhartha Bank as a title sponsor in a record-breaking sum though the former star all-rounder was again tight-lipped on the details.
50% of revenue from the competition will be shared among the franchise teams.
