Sajha Yatayat has initiated a smart card payment system to pay bus fares. The system would be implemented from March 14 inside Kathmandu Valley.
The smart travel card system has been installed on both doors of the buses where passengers can pay the fare by swiping cards while entering and exiting the bus. The smart travel card system would automatically deduct the fare amount from the card as per the distance travelled.
The card is rechargeable as the cardholders can contact Sajha’s office to recharge their balance. They could also handover the recharge amount to the onboard bus conductor.
Initially, the system would be introduced to 10 buses running on Lagankhel-New Buspark Route. The company has stated that they will be expanding the smart payment service in the coming days. As the service is currently operational in only one route, the company has plans to expand the service in all routes in the coming days.
Location and Pricing:
The passengers could buy the smart cards either from it’s Pulchowk-based office or Sajha’s Bus Stop in Lagankhel.
The first 100 travel cards were sold for Rs.200 which had Rs.200 balance and travellers buying cards after that will have to pay Rs. 150 for the card. According to Sajha Yatayat, they are planning convenient means to recharge the smart travel card in the coming days.
