The major railway project directly connecting Nepal with India, the Kathmandu-Raxaul railway, could be a reality in the future. If turned true, it will connect India’s Nepal’s federal capital Kathmandu with India’s Northern state of Bihar.
Konkan Railway Corporation Limited, India’s public sector railway company, has started the final land survey for the project. According to reports, the study will conclude within a year.
Currently, Raxaul is connected with India’s federal capital, Delhi. It’s proposed that the very railway system also connect Kathmandu with the new project.

Kathmandu-Raxaul railway distance, stations, and other key details
The proposed Kathmandu-Raxaul railway will have about 136 kilometers in length and have at least 13 stations. Likewise, the total budget of the project is estimated at INR 250 billion.
The Kathmandu-Raxaul railway will shorten the travel distance between the two cities to just 2 to 3 hours. It currently takes about 5 hours to travel between the same. But it will be more than just about travel.
A major railway connecting two major cities of the respective countries will contribute to cultural exchange, promotion of business relations, and strengthen the relationship further between the two countries. It will likewise be one of the major infrastructure milestones for Nepal.

As stated above, currently, a survey is being conducted for the project. Once it completes, a Detailed Project Report (DPR) will be prepared, followed by a tender to construct the ambitious railway project.
