IME Group to invest Rs 6 billion in Jalpadevi Cable Car

IME Group, Nepal’s one of the most prominent business conglomerates has announced an investment of Rs 6 billion Jalpadevi Cable Car project. The said project is set in Lamkichuha Municipality-3 in Chisapani, Kailali, that will stretch across 3.1 kilometers.

The construction project was inaugurated on Saturday, December 28, 2024, with the Minister of Foreign Affairs laying the foundation stone. The project is said to elevate the area’s socio-cultural and economic development and also contribute to the development of the Far-West Province.

During the inauguration program, Foreign Minister Rana reflected on the rich tourism, culture, and biodiversity of the Far-West region and said that the Jalpadevi Cable Car will further unlock tourism in the area. She said that many infrastructure and hotels will be built in the area which will jointly contribute to the development of the whole region.

During her speech, the Minister also urged the private sector to reinforce their investment in tourism infrastructure as necessary in the far-west region.

Chairman of IME Group, Chandra Prasad Dhakal, who also chairs Jalpadevi Cable Car Pvt. Ltd., remarked that tourism can transform the socio-economic and cultural aspects of Nepal. He also stated that, unlike other service industries, tourism can produce a trickle-down economy and contribute to the generation of employment.

Jalpadevi Cable Car project details

The Jalpadevi Cable Car starts at Chisapani, Lamkichuha Municipality – 03 and runs till Rajkanda, Mohanyal Rural Municipality – 07. The cable car will have a total of 34 gondolas.

The total estimated cost of the project is Rs 6 billion. The full-fledged cable car project will also have a hotel, casino, and banquet at the bottom station. Likewise, a resort, skywalk, restaurant, children’s park, etc. will be constructed at the top station.

Currently, cable Car is witnessing unhinged growth in Nepal and the Jalpadevi Cable Car project marks another key project. Muktinath cable car takes central dominance which is under work, many are drawing close attention. Being a hill-dominant country, ropeway seems to be a major means of transport and a way of life.

The next decade could prove to be a watershed period for cable car projects as results will be seen more widely on these ropeway systems.
