Nepal’s leading commercial bank Global IME Bank has launched the Visa Scan to Pay service in Nepal available through its mobile banking app. The service enables the bank’s customers to perform payments via their mobile banking app linked to a Visa Debit / Credit / Prepaid card by scanning the Visa QR code.
The bank introduced Nepal’s first Visa Scan to Pay service in collaboration with NEPS and Swift. In this partnership, NEPS is serving as a processor and Swift Technology as an application development partner.
The game-changing digital payment service was launched at an elated ceremony at a recently held event in Kathmandu.
The Executive Director of Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) Dr. Gunakar Bhatta, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Global IME Bank Ratnaraj Bajracharya, CEO of Nepal Electronic Payment Solution (NEPS) Sanjeev Subba and CEO of Swift Technology Niraj Dhungana jointly inaugurated the service by making the first Visa Scan to Pay transaction by scanning a QR.

Global IME Bank launches Visa Scan to Pay service in Nepal
The Visa to Scan Pay service allows Global IME Bank customers with Visa cardholders to pay by performing QR scans using the Global Smart Plus app. That is Visa card users won’t have to swipe any physical payment cards such as Debit, Credit, and Prepaid cards to make transactions.

Visa Scan to Pay is a card-to-merchant payment service that allows you to pay using your smartphone without swiping the card.
The chief guest at the program, Executive Director of Nepal Rastra Bank Bhatta said that this technology released by the bank will be a milestone in the development of the digital transaction landscape in Nepal. He expressed his gratitude to the bank and everyone involved in developing new technologies to build a digital Nepal, as envisioned by the Government of Nepal and Nepal Rastra Bank.

Chief Executive Officer of Global IME Bank, Mr. Bajracharya said that Global IME Bank is committed to leading the development and expansion of new technologies and added that along with the development of new technology, its utilization is equally important and necessary to promote it together with all stakeholders.

Suman Pokharel, Deputy Chief Executive Officer of Global IME Bank, said that following digital technology is a bigger problem than the development and drew the attention of the Nepal Government and Nepal Rastra Bank to support the development of necessary infrastructure to increase the applications of digital technology.
