DoTM server fire cause driving license disappearance on Nagarik App

Have you noticed that the driving license linked to your Nagarik App has disappeared? Whether you are on Android, iOS, or any cellular or WiFi service, the electronic version of the driving permit has gone invisible. And it’s got to do with fire that has caused damage to the server of the Department of Transport Management (DoTM).

Let’s dig more. The vandals set fire to the DoTM during the Gen Z protests, which spiraled out of control across the country over two days on September 8 and 9. During the protests, some agitated crowds torched the Transport Department office, causing severe damage to the building, equipment, and other infrastructure, including the server.

Essentially, the fire at the DoTM server disrupted the eDEVRS (Electronic Driving and Electronic Vehicle Registration System) of the department. It has been used to link users’ driving licenses with the Nagarik App.

When will the Driving License return on the Nagarik App?

Well, we expect that the digital driving license feature will soon return on the Nagarik App. The Gen Z protests have at least concluded in the street, so the government has started working on resuming its physical and digital services. There were no damages on the Integrated Data Management Center in Kathmandu and the backup Disaster Recovery facility in Hetauda.

Therefore, we believe that the app will soon bring the driving license feature to the app.

People have become immersed in digital ways with the Nagarik App when it comes to available services. These days, people don’t often carry physical documents, as a digital driving license shows up on Nagarik App. The facility has also been elevated with a fine payment feature on the app. That’s why it’s become more necessary these days as digitalized services make user experience more convenient and economic.

But while the driving license is off on Nagarik App, we suggest you carry your physical documents as well as a bill book with you to avoid any possible fine.
