Permanent Account Number, shortly, PAN card is now distributed at the local levels. The Inland Revenue Department has notified that services relating to PAN and taxes will be provided by the local government bodies.
The decision will greatly facilitate all the taxpayers with their proceedings. Prior to this, PAN cards were issued by Taxpayer Service Offices. These have been dismissed.
The department said, “In cases where it may take time for the service to be resumed at the local level, arrangements have been made to provide those services through the Treasury and Accounts Controller’s Office in the respective district.”
Similarly, the department has clarified that services, including tax payment, tax payment certificates, etc., can be obtained through the online system. The department has stated that it has adopted a policy of making the service delivery of offices under the department closer to taxpayers and technology-friendly.
Well, you can also make your PAN on Nagarik App in a few minutes. But earlier, you had to go to a Taxpayer Service Office to collect the physical document. Now, your respective local body will give you your PAN card.
The decision marks another significant step for digital governance. It brings convenience and comfort to all the citizens who are in need of a PAN card.
