Nepal Telecom (NTC) has started a dedicated portal for online KYC updates. The electronic service allows customers to fill out details at their convenience, anywhere in the process. However, the system still requires a visit to an NT office designated during the online process. Here, we discuss the pros and cons of it and more.
NT says that its online KYC process is just a start, and it will come in a more developed form in the near future. It might also mean a complete online transformation from the current semi-sort of thing. Anyway, we first start with how you can fill out your Ntc KYC online.
How to update NTC KYC online
- Go to this portal
- Enter your current Ntc number and tap on Send OTP Code to receive a code on the phone
- Enter the code (It’s 5 digits) and tap on Verify & Send OTP
- Now, submit the code correctly and again tap on Verify & Login
- A new interface opens where you need to provide all your details
- Tap on Update KYC
- Enter your details such as name, DoB, occupation, etc.
- Now, the crucial part is Sundhara and Babarmahal, and enter your permanent and temporary residence, and enter the five numbers you have engaged in calls
- Upload your federally-issued document (citizenship or passport) photo
- Tap Next and click photos with your document being clearly visible in your hand
- Check the box and tap on Submit Application
- Now, you need to visit your chosen NT office to complete the KYC update process

The good and bad with this semi-online process
The theme of this post is to analyze the good and not so encouraging aspect of this semi-online system. The advantage is that this pre-enrollment for KYC ‘saves’ time. You can fill out details at home, office, or anywhere at your convenience, and only need to visit an NT office to get it done.
However, the process can be daunting with steps, especially when you need to upload documents while holding them. Some have even argued that visiting the office would be easy. That’s an argument still, but the process does take some time. And not everyone can be digitally literate enough to complete the process easily. But there’s an option to go to an NT office (between Sundhara and Babarmahal) and do the whole process.
A right step towards the digitalization of KYC
The online process is a good start as it serves 1.60 crore customers in voice service alone. The government is promoting eGovernance, and in that regard, the state telco’s digitization of the KYC process is worth appreciation. But what we wish is that the company transform the entire process electronic one. After filling out that many details online, one still has to visit an NT office. This aspect hasn’t sat well with many. But we do cut some slack for the telco.
In the recent past, NT has launched eSIM, VoLTE, and other technologies to enhance its cellular service. Online KYC update is a thematically right initiative forward, which aligns with the very theme of providing customer-friendly services. We hope it extends further with a linear and more straightforward process. The integration of National ID details should make it more time-efficient.
