Fonepay, Nepal’s frontrunner in the digital payment industry, has struck up a partnership with Alipay Plus, Ant Group’s payment company that unlocks digital payment for travelers from over 11 countries in Nepal. The facility allows tourists and travelers to pay for goods and services in Nepal by scanning the Fonepay QR on their digital payment apps.
Fonepay and Alipay’s partnership unlocks an interoperable QR network that facilitates international payments. The facility removes the need for travelers to carry paper bills or exchange their currency for Nepali currency in Nepal to pay their bills.
The cooperation was announced at a special ceremony organized in Kathmandu. Mr. Kiran Pandit, Executive Director, Payment System Department, Nepal Rastra Bank, was the chief guest at the event, while Mr. Shubhash Chandra Ghimire, Director, Payment System Department, Nepal Rastra Bank, was the Key Remark Speaker.
The program also had the presence of high-ranking officials from Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB), Nepal Tourism Board, media houses, and people from the business communities. Many representatives from banks and financial institutions also attended the ceremony.
