A meeting of stakeholders at the Department of Transport Management (DoTM) has prioritized an online system for the advanced booking of bus tickets for Dashain. And according to the decision, the online bus ticket booking has started from Saturday Ashoj 12 (September 28).
This enables Nepalese to book their bus tickets online for various destinations from from many places.
It’s the first time that priority has been given to online bus seat booking for passengers traveling for the Dashain festival. The meeting was attended by Devendra Dahal, Minister for Physical Infrastructure and Transport (MoPIT), and representatives of the National Federation of Nepalese Transport Entrepreneurs (FNNTE).
Bijay Swar, Chairman of the Federation of Nepalese National Transport Entrepreneurs (FNNTE), informed that the online platform is given more priority in advance booking this year. He also shared, “We have planned to give more priority to the online platform this year. We believe that this will make it easier for the common people to buy tickets.”
According to Swar, the federation has planned to make two-thirds of the seats available for online booking and the remaining seats at the physical counter.

Advanced bus ticket booking for Dashain
The decision to offer a large volume of ticket booking online has excited the bus service providers. PR Khanal, CEO of Bus Sewa, a bus ticket service provider said that the organization is ready in technical terms to facilitate the online ticket service for people this Dashain.
He added that from this year, the company will use its own system at the ticket counter and assured that there won’t be any issue with the lack of seats or repetition of the same ticket issuance for more passengers.
During the festival times, over 40,000 tickets can be purchased daily for various destinations in more than 70 districts from this platform.

Taking into account the problem of traffic congestion on the road, Bus Sewa has also launched a passenger lounge in Kalanki, Kathmandu for passenger management.
According to the company, passengers who have bought tickets from the bus service can take the service from the lounge to go to any destination. More than 450 transport committees and companies are involved in Bus Sewa.

- Visit bussewa.com
- Enter your Boarding place, destination place, date, and search for availability
- Then View seats, choose your preferred seats and Continue
- Don’t forget to enter your boarding point
- Log in with Facebook or Google and submit your Name, email address, and mobile number and proceed
- Hit Purchase and make your payment via digital wallets such as eSewa, Khalti, NepalPay, etc
- Done. You have booked your ticket for travelling for Dashain.
Apart from Bussewa’s website, teh company’s official mobile apps on Android and iOS as well as its Facebook page can be used for bus ticket booking.
During the Dashain festival which also precedes Tihar, around 2 million Nepalese leave Kathmandu temporarily to go back to their original residence for celebration. The online bus ticket facility should alleviate various issues with physical ticket purchases starting with physical hassle, staying in long queues, etc.
