Yatri Motorcycles has received a temporary registration number plate for its upcoming electric two-wheeler Yatri P2. This is the first time that a Nepali manufacturer has been afforded a temporary number plate.
The domestic two-wheeler maker shared the milestone in its official Facebook post and thanked the Department of Transport Management for issuing the temporary registration number plate. “From no registration to this. Kudos to our team and a big thank you to the Department of Transport Management for issuing the country’s first ever ‘temporary registration number plate’ for our Yatri P2 prototype.”
Yatri praised the government body for its “forward-thinking and progressive support” and said that it is a major boost to the company’s R&D and “a big step for indigenous innovation in electric mobility.”
Earlier, Yatri received registration for its motorbikes starting with P1, which was also a remarkable event for the company, for its validation in the country. Prior to that, the company couldn’t provide official number plates for its vehicles because of government regulations.
Yatri lands a temporary registration number plate for its EV
In its Facebook post, Yatri shared a photo of its upcoming motorbike P2 with the temporary registration number plate. It reads “Bagmati Pradesh 02001A 0001” with the text “temporary” just above it on the number plate.

As stated above, Yatri couldn’t register its vehicles due to convoluted government policies. This led to rumors that the startup would give up on its EV ambitions. But the government amended the existing Transport Management Procedures Directive 2060 after a huge media storm. Now, as it seems, the company has steered away from its recent hiccups.
Yatri expects that the legal permission to use a temporary registration number plate will facilitate it to test its prototype vehicles.
