Nepali embassies abroad will now have AI chatbots and a call center to address queries. The decision has been made to address the situation of phones not being picked up at the embassies. It’s expected that artificial intelligence will be of help in communicating with citizens trying to contact the embassies.
Mahesh Kumar Shrestha, President of the Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA) ICC, said that the work has reached the final stage. Shrestha said that the integration of AI and a call center at embassies will begin from Dubai as a ‘pilot project’ within the next few weeks. He also shared that the measures will be implemented in other countries soon.
Shrestha further added that this work is undertaken to efficiently connect callers with the embassies. Due to the low number of staff at embassies, callers do not get information timely and some calls don’t even get picked up. It’s said that the chatbot and call center will be integrated soon in the Shramsansar app as per the agreement between the Ministry of Labor, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and NRNA.

AI chatbot and call center to pick calls at Nepali embassies
Millions of Nepalese go abroad to study and work. The demography is spread across the hemispheres, and they frequently require consultation, information, and other government services at the embassies. However, due to the lack of resources, it’s become more common that callers see their phones not getting picked up. The initiation to use an AI chatbot to provide automated responses and a call center could help ease the situation.
The government has focused on e-governance, implementing technology for the digital transformation of its services. The only wish here is their effectiveness. Let’s hope that thousands of Nepalese abroad will be able to contact the embassies and find information about their queries with an AI chatbot and call center.
