The government of Nepal has started the operation of an Artificial Intelligence and Advanced Analytics Cell (AI-AAC) to curb misinformation ahead of the Falgun 21 elections. The system has been set up at the Nepal Police head office in Naxal, Kathmandu, and was inaugurated at a special program on Monday, February 23, 2026.
The inauguration ceremony also had the presence of the Home Secretary Rajkumar Shrestha, Inspector General of Police Dan Bahadur Karki, Inspector General of Armed Police Raju Aryal, Additional Inspectors General of Police, officials of the Ministry of Home Affairs, Deputy Inspectors General of Police, and others.
The AI-AAC will be used to tackle growing cybercrime, misinformation, financial crimes, digital crimes, etc. Social media sites have become not just a home for connecting, but also a source of fake news, cybercrimes, scams, spam, etc. The cell will work to curb them to their bare minimum.
Nepal Police shares that the future security management can’t be effective without analysis systems based on Generative AI, Large Language Model (LLM), Machine Learning, etc. This is why the authority says that the advanced monitoring system has been brought into operation.
