Google is bringing a facility for users, allowing them to change their old Gmail addresses. According to Google’s account help page, the rollout is going to be global; however, it will take weeks to months, as it seems. But that’s still good news, and we have more details below.
Change your old Gmail address
Google’s decision to allow users to change their Gmail addresses is a welcome decision for many. Most of us have used odd, difficult-to-remember, and even downright embarrassing Emails back in time. Worse, we are stuck with them but can’t change them. Thanks go to Google for letting us make the much-needed amendment.
But what you need to know is that the rollout seems hazy at best. Google’s English page is showing no such indication of this feature coming any time soon.
On the flipside, the Gmail address change policy shows up in Hindi-language supported Google support pages. So, that indicates that the facility will be available for India and the nearby regions before rolling out to other markets.

Users can keep their old Gmail address, too
The new policy lets users change their Gmail address and keep the old one as their alias. Messages that were sent to the old address will continue to arrive in the inbox. It’s also said that the old address will work for signing up to other Google services such as Drive, YouTube, and Maps.
Prior to this, too, users had to make a new Gmail address and could transfer data manually, but it was hectic and inconvenient for the users. But with the latest policy, after changing the address, users can still access photos, messages, and emails, and also use their old email address to log in.
The only caveat is that after changing their address, users can’t create a new one for 12 months.
There’s no confirmation on how Google will roll out the Gmail address-changing feature across the markets. But it certainly comes to India and the Hindi language-supported regions and should expand to other countries later.
