The government of Nepal has started its Foreign Nationals Registration and Tracking System on January 01, 2026. The system is used to enhance the security of foreign nationals who visit Nepal as tourists or for business purposes. The stakeholders have called it a significant step for national security reinforcement.
What is the Foreign Nationals Registration and Tracking System, what does it do?
The Foreign Nationals Registration and Tracking System tracks tourists’ location while they are in Nepal for safety purposes. Implemented by the Department of Immigration, it keeps track of tourists’ hotel stays to keep a record of their location. The stakeholders, though, have weighed in that it is not a tracking system but an information system.
The system works at DoI’s portal: https://nepaliport-new.immigration.gov.np. Check the below for a reference on which service providers will use to log in and submit necessary information.
It works with the important cooperation between the immigration department and hotels, in particular. Rolling out in phases, star hotels in Kathmandu will be required to update their guests’ (tourists’) details on the online system developed by the immigration department. The system goes live on January 01.
Stakeholders pledge support to the Foreign Nationals Registration and Tracking System
At the interactive program, Nepal Tourism Board CEO Deepak Raj Joshi said that since it is not a tourist tracking system, it should be taken positively and promoted accordingly. ‘This is a work started with good intentions, many countries abroad have such systems,’ he said, ‘We need to give a positive message through this.’
Hotel Association of Nepal (HAN) General Secretary Sajan Shakya said that businessmen are ready to implement this system. However, since many hotels are not registered, he said that it would be easier to implement this system if the registration process is facilitated by making a policy.
Likewise, Trekking Agents Association of Nepal (TAAN) Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Ramchandra Sedhai said that this system will also help in the safety of tourists. ‘This is a matter related to our national security, it is equally important for the personal safety of tourists,’ he said, ‘We are committed to cooperating in this.’
Roll out plan
First, the star hotels in Kathmandu will start using the Foreign Nationals Registration and Tracking System. It’s mandatory for star hotels. After three months, all types of hotels, travel agencies, transport operators, etc. will need to sign up for the system.

Tracking for the right purposes!
The stakeholders favored the system, stating that the system would minimize illegal activities and unauthorized stay of foreigners in Nepal. Department officials state that the system will discourage foreigners from engaging in unlawful activities and will prove a good step for national security.
