CAN Federation of Nepal, shortly CAAN, has introduced its website in the Nepali domain क्यान.संगठन, the first in Nepal. It has been launched in an initiative under UA Hackathon 2025.
Domain name in Nepali language
The unique part of this is that now, you can type क्यान.संगठन as a URL and reach the webpage. So far, you have visited websites using URLs in English. This new initiative does that in the Nepali language, or let’s say, Devanagari script.
UA Hackathon 2025 coordinator Udip Baral said that the purpose behind introducing the Devnagari script for a URL is to use the local language in website URLs and emails. It’s possible and promoted by the Universal Acceptance (UA) values.
“The main objective of our program is to provide domains in Nepali as websites are currently being used in English.” He referenced that India has already started this practice of using URLs in the Devanagari script. So, he said, “As a continuation of this, we have registered the Can.org and launched Nepal’s first Nepali website.”

Rahul Shakya, the program’s tech lead, shared that if a platform accepts domains and email addresses written in Devanagari, it is called UA-ready. He said that this initiative to convert domains to local languages in Nepal was taken under the UA Hackathon 2025.
“Today, we launched Nepal’s first Nepali domain. Now our focus is on assessing how prepared other platforms are to support the Nepali language and educating youth on the rules and procedures for using email addresses in Nepali.”

My honest thoughts on typing a URL in Nepali
We are accustomed to entering website URLs in the English language. It feels basic and easy, too. But being honest, typing domain names in Nepali could be slightly hectic as they are not just single letters in the Nepali language. But once we type a domain, that can be saved as a bookmark, and the web browser also saves it for the next time. So, that should save some time spent on looking for specific keys to complete the Nepali domain name.
Anyway, visiting a web page via a domain in Nepali feels cool and localized. Since the website is live, you can try it too. Do share with us below in the comments
