BYD will soon launch its next electric vehicle in Nepal – Seagull (Mini-Dolphin). CIMEX INC is bringing the compact-size hatchback to the Nepali market. The car comes with a 55kW motor and offers up to 405 km per full charge. It’s expected that the company will launch it in an affordable price range to appeal to Nepali customers, which is great news for potential buyers. CIMEX says that it is bringing the entry-level variant of the car to Nepal and will first bring a sample model. The car comes in Active, Free, and Flying variants, with the first one costing below $10,000.

BYD Seagull (Dolphin Mini) Overview
Likable for design and affordability, the BYD Seagull is already one of the cheapest electric cars in China. The passenger EV measures 3780mm x 1715mm x 1540mm in length, width, and height, respectively. The supermini EV has a wheelbase of 2500 mm and boasts a 4-seater and 5-door setup.
Likewise, the electric hatchback carries ultra-slim overhangs at the ends and has a short bonnet and an upright rear profile. Maneuverability and comfort are the key here.

Range
BYD Seagull offers up to 405 km CLTC range, which is powered by a 38 kWh BYD LFP battery. The other mode,l with a 30 kWh BYD LFP battery, provides a 305 km CLTC range. Both batteries support DC fast charging. The company claims that the Seagull fills its juice to up to 80% in just 30 minutes.
The small hatchback is powered by a 55-kW motor with a top speed of 130 km/h.
The 30kWh variant uses sodium-ion battery chemistry, which has key benefits. It becomes cheaper for manufacturers to make and is less vulnerable to cold temperatures. However, owners will have to bear the cost of lower energy density and a slower charging rate. So far, it is the first car with a sodium-ion battery, and we can only expect the li-ion variant here in Nepal.

In China, the price of BYD Seagull starts at the price of RMB 69,800, and the highest variant costs RMB 85,800. The global price of the BYD Seagull is a little higher than the price in China. In terms of availability, CIMEX INC. could bring the much-anticipated BYD Seagull EV in March or at least in the first quarter of 2025. As the local seller is testing the model, we expect that the affordable EV lineup is not far from its glorious launch.
