BYD has launched its latest product in China called Seagull, an affordable supermini electric car that is part of the company’s ocean line of cars. The supermini car was unveiled at the Shanghai Motor Show and is only to be sold in the Chinese market “for now”. With the presales, Seagull got 10,000 orders in just 24 hours (which is highly impressive). However, there are chances that BYD will launch it in other markets including Nepal. The pre-sales began on the first day of the Shanghai Automobile Exhibition on April 18. And how popular it has been already! Features of BYD Seagull
Likable for design and affordability, the BYD Seagull is already one of the cheapest electric cars in China. The passenger EV measures 3780mm x 1715mm x 1540mm in length, width, and height respectively. The supermini EV has a wheelbase of 2500 mm and boasts a 4-seater and 5-door setup.
Likewise, the electric hatchback carries ultra-slim overhangs at the ends and has a short bonnet, and has an upright rear profile. maneuverability and comfort is the key here.
Like the BYD Atto 3 and Seal, BYD Seagull is based on the automaker’s third-generation E- platform. The specs are thin as the company has kept most details behind the curtain. But there are some details.

Up to 252 miles range
BYD Seagull is powered by a 55 kW motor with a top speed of 130 km/h. It comes with two battery options: One, a 30 kWh BYD LFP battery for a 305 km CLTC range, and the other, a 38 kWh BYD LFP battery for a 405 km CLTC range. Both batteries support DC fast charging. The company claims that the Seagull fills its juice to up to 80% in just 30 minutes.
The 30kWh variant uses sodium-ion battery chemistry which has key benefits. It becomes cheaper for manufacturers to make and are less vulnerable to cold temperatures. However, owners will have to bear the cost of lower energy density and a slower charging rate. So far known, it is the first car with a sodium-ion battery and we can only expect the li-ion variant here in Nepal.

Unique cockpit design
In the interior, the four-wheeler features a unique cockpit design resembling its “Ocean” siblings and has a 12.8-inch touchscreen that swivels at the touch. Likewise, there’s a digital 5.0-inch gauge cluster.

BYD Seagull comes in two models: one with a CLTC range of 305 km and the other offering up to 405 km with two different prices. Chinese media have reported that the BYD Seagull hit the market at starting price of RMB 78,800 and the highest price variant at RMB 95,800. Below, we have the expected BYD Seagull price in Nepal.
