Albania has become the first country in the world to appoint an AI minister. Named Diella, the virtual minister will be responsible for procurement and reducing government corruption.
Albania’s Prime Minister Edi Rama had recently said that the country will one day have a digital minister or an AI-powered Prime Minister. It happened sooner than many might have expected.

Who is AI minister Diella?
Albania’s AI Minister Diella is a virtual minister, being the only virtual being in the government. As you expect, she is made of code and pixels. Her job is to uphold integrity in the country by overseeing public procurement and minimizing government corruption in spending.
She will assess and award public tenders, ensuring they align with the corruption-free policies of the government.
On Thursday, September 11, Albania’s PM Rama introduced the AI minister at the Socialist Party’s event in Tirana. “Diella is the first member not physically present but virtually created by artificial intelligence,” Rama said.
He said that the virtual minister will assist in minimizing bribes and threats.
