Nepal’s leading mobile payment app eSewa is now enabled with an AI-powered virtual assistant eVA (eSewa Virtual Assistant). Announcing the feature on the company’s official Facebook handle, the company announced the introduction of Nepal’s first payment-enabled virtual assistant on the eSewa app that provides various real-time services to users.
“The company brought the service to enhance customer services and bring its customers closer to AI services,” said Ashim Shakya, eSewa’s Chief Strategy Officer (CSO). And the prominent payment company is earnest with its AI inclusion as it says, the AI chatbot is more “than just giving trained answers.” So, what does the AI chatbot on the eSewa app do? Find below.

Virtual assistant eVA on eSewa app brings a suite of benefits
Primarily, eVA provides real-time services to eSewa users such as fund transfer and mobile top-up. Suppose you command it “Hi eVA. Please topup my balance,” then the AI assistant eVa will ask how much balance to topup and present you an interface with options of balance. Once you quote the amount, the AI chatbot tops up your mobile balance. You can top up both your Ntc and Ncell SIM with the help of eVA.
Similarly, you can ask the AI service to transfer funds from your account to another. Besides, you can query eVA on security tips, foreign exchanges, and the latest gold price, and ask queries.
Regarding security while using the company’s virtual assistant services, CSO Shakya said that the company has stressed data privacy as a top priority. He stated that more than just answering queries, eVA acts as a financial assistant.
eSewa says that its virtual assistant eVA enters its users into a new world of more convenience, digitization, and AI.

How to use AI service eVA on eSewa?
To use the AI virtual assistant eVA on eSewa, go through the following steps:
- Launch the app, and update it if required
- Find and top on the robot symbol in the top right corner
- Check the box to agree to Terms and Conditions and Accept to proceed
- Now, ask your query in the field at the bottom
My conclusion: It’s good and can get better
From my experience, the eVA virtual assistant is a wonder inclusion in the eSewa app but it can be more useful. As I gave voice commands such as “Hey eVA, please transfer funds” or “Top up my balance”, it couldn’t detect what I said and instead gave me some possible queries. And after I tap on the options though, it works perfectly. Admittedly, it might have had to do with the accent.
What I gather is that using phrases is in fact more useful to convey queries. I am not criticizing here, but things could have been more straightforward. Also, as I gave voice commands, I had to tap on the message symbol to process my query, and doing it each time could be frustrating.
Though, credit to eSewa, that the AI chat assistant admits that it is “continuously learning.” Still, as a user of some digital wallets, I appreciate that eSewa has integrated an AI chat assistant that not just feeds answers to queries, but also offers services in real-time. I am delighted and hopeful that things will improve even further soon.
