AI Telephony service has been started at the Dhulikhel Municipality. The service is brought into operation to disseminate information to the public.
The innovative service aligns with the government’s plan for digital governance and digital transformation of public services.
What is AI Telephony
AI Telephony is an artificial intelligence-backed telecom service that leverages AI voice to send information to the recipient. It uses a human-like voice that automates calls to disseminate information. It can be both one-way and two-way communication.

Dhulikhel Municipality brings AI Telephony into operation
Dhulikhel Municipality brought Ting Ting AI Telephony service to feed the public with the necessary information. It allows the local body to issue notices, alerts, and information to over 38,000 people inside its jurisdiction. The AI call can perform automated calls to thousands of recipients at once. It saves time and resources both.
The local body brought the Ting Ting telephony service to convey public information regarding tax payment deadlines, birth registration, and health camp information to all citizens. All information will now directly reach the public on their phone.
Dhulikhel Municipality Mayor Ashok Kumar Byanju Shrestha said that the government should also be first in the race for AI, adding that the local government has prioritized digital services to make the services provided to citizens easy and accessible.
“We have deployed an AI system to provide quality services to our 38,000 citizens and residents of commercial and industrial areas,” he said, “The most effective medium for this is the telephone, and our efforts to provide it in the Nepali language will ensure service to all citizens.”

A model practice for e-Governance
AI Telephony could serve as a model practice for e-Governance of Nepal. Informing the public about governance services helps form a cordial relationship between the citizens and the local authorities. AI can make that leap thanks to automated calls. The public too can receive information and stay bonded to their duties with timely updates from the local body. It is a citizen-friendly practice, and credit must go to Dhulikhel Municipality for this initiative.
This could set a precedent for other local bodies to follow in the near future.
