A made-in-Nepal electric bus is set to ply the road. The four-wheeler vehicle is assembled by Sundar Auto Engineer Pvt. Ltd. and will start its road test on Magh 25.
The conversion of combustion engines to EVs is a thing already. However, this one is a fully new electric bus. It also takes pride in being the first electric bus to be assembled in Nepal.
Sundar Auto Engineer chairman Bhesh Thapa shared that the vehicle will start its test on Sunday, Magh 25. After its successful trial, the company will take it to the Transport Management Office for registration. Without registration, it can’t be used for commercial purposes.
Made-in-Nepal electric bus specifications
The bus has been assembled using over 60% of parts from Nepal. Thapa said that the remaining parts were imported from China and India.
He further added that the vehicle was designed in India while its body design, wiring, and structures were prepared in Nepal. He assured that all the parts used in the pioneer vehicle have been certified to quality standards.
The 14-seater capacity bus can ascend a 17% incline. The company maintains that if it gets facilitation from the government, it can start mass production. This will also have to do with the EV tax and part import duties.

Will be demonstrated in various cities
The milestone bus is planned to be tried in Kathmandu, Chitwan, and Butwal. Afterwards, the company plans to test drive it in other cities. The company plans to manufacture it as per the demands in the market.
However, the price will be determined after a government inspection.
