Seres has explained the reason behind a Seres EV discharging smoke today in Kathmandu (Monday, October 21, 2024) at a service center while parking. The company has attributed the mishap to its possible maintenance at an unauthorized service center.
Recently, a Seres electric vehicle caught fire in Sitapaila, Kathmandu Metropolitan City – 15 at a service center. As usual, the incident led to various assumptions about the EV relating to its manufacturing process thought as one of the reasons to blame. However, the company was quick to respond and provide an explanation.
“The vehicle was brought to the service center after the regular technical problem of the vehicle was not resolved. The vehicle suffered a short circuit and the smoke was discharged,” “The car might have been taken to unauthorized service centers for repair and maintenance,” the company said in a statement. The company suspects that the car might have incurred technical issues for its repair and maintenance at other places beyond Seres’s own.

Seres to investigate the EV that released smoke
However, there is some good news at least. In its statement, Seres made it clear that the car’s battery and motor are not affected by smoke.
“According to the preliminary investigation from the company, no problem has been observed as there is no damage to both the battery and the motor of the vehicle, but further investigation is being conducted,” the company said.
But it is not an isolated case of an EV catching fire. Unfortunately, such incidents come into the news once in a while. Back on January 29, 2024, Paramount Motors had to explain a similar statement after MG EV caught fire.
Electric vehicles come with a densely packed safety mechanism to ensure all its parts including motor, battery, and other hardware remain exempt from electric hazards. But, it seems as if some gaps exist to eliminate situations of EVs catching fire. Charging behavior, power surge, and other reasons could be attributed to these occurrences.

Therefore, it seems imperative that strict measures are taken to avoid such situations. Likewise, Seres has stated that EVs come with various safety features and requested its EV customers to only get their vehicles serviced from authorized service centers.
