Samsung Galaxy S23 Smartphones | Design & Display
The Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra features a familiar yet exceptional design. The phone comes with a glass rear panel which makes it subject to smudges. However, the device is ever a premium looker and superlative by all means. Samsung can’t be blamed for making a great leap with such a flying design yet. The S23 Ultra comes in a square form and its notebook feel is inherited from S22 Ultra which was inspired by the Galaxy Note.
The phone comes with 163.4 mm x 78.1 mm x 8.9 mm dimensions on a 6.8-inch display with a resolution of 1440 x 3088-pixel resolution. the display is made of 22 percent recycled glass. It has an IP68 rating for minor protection against dust and water. The S23 Ultra comes in various color options – Phantom Black, Green, Cream, and Lavender.
Talking of its screen again, the expensive gadget sports a 120Hz refresh rate, 240Hz Touch Sampling Rate, and HDR10+ support. For protection against unauthorized use, it has an Ultrasonic under-display sensor and facial recognition.
Coming to the moderate variants, Galaxy S23 Plus and S23 inherit mostly similar designs to their direct predecessors Galaxy S22 Plus and S23 models. Both are designed with recycled glass and PET film. Their screens get Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2 protection. Both handsets come in Phantom Black, Cream, Green, and Lavender colors.
Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 for all and performance
With Galaxy S23 lineups, Samsung is breaking away from its trend of using different chipsets on its flagship phones depending on the region they are sold. Yes, ditching its debated Exynos processor, the phone maker will bring all the Galaxy S23 phones with the latest Qualcomm-built 4nm-powered quad-core Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset.
The S23 Ultra gets Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 mated to an Adreno 740 GPU serving a great experience for camera and gaming. Samsung says the Adreno 740 is 41 percent faster, and the processor is 34 percent snappier compared to their predecessors. From the perspective of performance capability, you can’t get better than this at this moment.

RAM & ROM
Likewise, the S23 Ultra gets multiple storage options from 256 GB ROM/8 GB RAM to 1 TB ROM/12 GB RAM far more than enough for multitasking and graphics-intensive games and apps. It gets UFS 4.0 support too. The device comes with Android 13 out of the box and Samsung’s One UI 5.1 skin on top. The larger vapor chamber makes gaming smoother.
Both S23+ and S23 are also powered by the same superlative S8G2 chipset however, the two get Adreno 730 GPU. On the software front, each gets Samsung One UI 5.1 out of the box. The Plus model comes with 256 GB and 512 GB storage options with 8 GB LPDDR5 RAM.
The base model gets the same RAM setup but more storage options – 128 GB, 256 GB, and 512 GB. The Plus model gets UFS 4.0 ROM for the 512 GB storage and UFS 3.1 support for the 128 GB storage.
Massive camera configuration with 200 MP on the Ultra
The Galaxy S23 Ultra comes with the series’ highest-ever 200 MP camera for the first time. The quad camera gets:
- 10 MP f/4.9 aperture
- periscope telephoto lens with 10x optical zoom
- 10 MP f/2.4 aperture telephoto lens with 3x optical zoom
- 12 MP f/2.2 aperture ultrawide lens with FOV 120˚
The 200 MP camera gets an f/1.7 aperture.
For the lovers of selfie photos, there is a standard 12 MP camera which could disappoint many as it’s lower in pixel counts compared to the 40 MP camera in the S22 Ultra.
The massive camera is complemented by Optical Image Stabilisation (OIS) which helps make images steady. Plus, night photography can be expected to improve greatly with an improved aperture structure. The phone is equally capable of recording videos at greater specs. You can record videos at up to 8K@24/30fps but expect to lose a huge amount of storage with such detailed content. Instead, you can opt for 4K@30/60fps or 1080p videos at 30 fps. The front camera can capture videos up to 4K resolution at 30 or 60 fps.
50 MP for S23 Plus and S23 base model
Down the order, the S22 Plus, and S23 model features linear camera lenses led by the 50 MP camera. Unlike the Ultra variant, the two come with a triple-camera setup with:
- 50 MP Primary camera with an f/1.0 aperture
- a 10 MP f/2.4 aperture telephoto lens with 3x optical zoom
- a 12 MP ultrawide lens with f/2.2 aperture & FOV 120°
For the selfie purpose, there’s a 12 MP camera with an f/2.2 aperture. Unlike the Ultra model, the lovers of the Plus and base variants would be excited with the slightly improved 12 MP camera compared to the 10 MP selfie-shooter on its S22 predecessors.
For video recording, the Galaxy S 23 Plus, and S23 also support recording up to 8K videos at 24/30 fps at most. There is also support for HDR10+, and stereo sound. You can become more creative with photography with auto-HDR, Expert RAW, and panorama features.
In sum, You can get brighter, better low-light images with all the S23 cameras as you would expect from such a high-end lineup.
5000 mAh battery for the Ultra
The Ultra variant comes with a 5,000 mAh li0ion battery which should be good enough for a day’s drive. It gets 45W wired charging and 10W wireless charging. Likewise, you can benefit from its PD3.0 power supply standard and charge the device to 65 percent in 30 minutes. You are ensured with a well-optimized battery and options of charging it quickly to never run out of juice.
Connectivity
As expected with most flagship phones today, the S23 Ultra gets 5G connectivity to get you a next-level broadband performance on a mobile phone. Plus, it has the now-common nano-SIM and eSIM services not to mention support for WiFi 6e standard and Bluetooth 5.3. Bixby, Samsung Pay, and other features, and others maximize the Ultra experience for users.
Credible battery for Galaxy S23 Plus, and S23
S23 Plus and S23 get non-removable 4500 mAh and 3900 Li-Ion batteries. Both have received battery improvement by 200 mAh over their predecessors. For the charging support, both handsets support 25W wired charging, and 45W wired charging respectively.
There’s also support for 10W wireless charging and 4.5 reverse charging. Samsung says S23 Plus, and S23 can stay awake to play videos for 27 and 22 hours non-stop respectively. You would still expect bumped up the battery on such high-end models but Samsung is stubborn to introduce large-sized batteries still on its most ambitious lineups which can be forgiven for its optimization.
5G, WiFi 6e, eSIM, nano-SIM, Bluetooth 5.3, GLONASS, and NFC are other notable connectivity features on these devices.

Our verdict
Samsung Galaxy S23 is an expensive lineup and is targeted at buyers who can afford it. But if budget is not the concern, then the devices offer the best smartphone experience possible at the moment. From gaming to the camera, multitasking to basic browsing, the specs of these devices can handle all that you push towards it.
But among the three, you can still be picky. If you are a design freak and wanted different with the Ultra, you will have second thoughts. If performance is the key, you can buy any of the phones. It’s about going for the highest or buying the one to fit your bills. There are not many phones that can match the ultimate Galaxy S23 devices for this year at least so far.
