Prominent battery company Contemporary Amperex Technology Co. Limited (CATL) has unveiled a battery with a 932-mile (1499 km) range. It is a major breakthrough in the electric vehicle industry and could bring a revolutionary change in the battery systems used in eco-friendly autos.
The company built a “Freevoy Dual-Power Battery” which combines two packs in one, making “two powerful independent energy zones.” Of the two, the first zone is designed to address “daily driving needs”, and the second, the “extended range energy zone”, activates during long-distance travels. CATL said that the battery’s operating marks a “fundamental shift in how we approach electric vehicle range limitations.”
The battery system uses CATL’s self-forming anode technology, which improves energy density by up to 60%.
CATL’s 932-mile battery has different battery types and zones
CATL states that different battery types and zones offer “a more stable and reliable power supply” for independent vehicles that operate in ADAS Level 3 and ADAS Level 4 systems. Learn about each ADAS system and its benefits for EVs.

At the same time, CATL also unveiled its 2nd-generation Shenxing battery with a 497-mile range (800 km). One key highlight of this battery is that it charges at the epic rate of 1.3 megawatts and can add 320 miles (514.999 km) of range with a 50-minute charge.
Availability of the CATL 932-mile range battery
The company hasn’t disclosed exact details on when its industry—defining battery with 932-mile range will be available and how much they will cost. Well, they should be rolled out soon, but whether they make it into the US-made EVs will be an argument.
One thing is sure that CATL’s latest major EV battery breakthrough will help make batteries less costly and longer-lasting in the near future.
