Chinese EV maker BYD (Build Your Dreams) has announced that its smart parking feature has reached the L4 level. At the same time, the company will now take full responsibility for any mishaps that might occur inside China as a result of the feature’s malfunctioning.
According to the company, the commitment applies to all of its EVs that feature its God’s Eye intelligent driving system. The L4 smart parking is part of the automation system that we can also call ADAS Levels or automation.
The L4 refers to a situation where the vehicle operates without the need of a human driver under select conditions. In BYD’s context, it refers to a situation where L4 can handle intelligent parking effectively without a driver’s intervention, ensuring full safety.
BYD said that it has become the first car maker globally to achieve the L4 smart parking capability.
BYD to take full responsibility for L4 smart parking faults
“In the Chinese market, we assume full responsibility for the safety and losses of all users of vehicles equipped with God’s Eye in intelligent parking scenarios,” the company stated.
BYD has said that should an issue persist in intelligent parking with the God’s Eye system, users can contact BYD’s after-sales service for resolution. It will not affect owners’ insurance premiums in 2026.
As of now, BYD vehicles with the God’s Eye system have surpassed 1 million. The company will soon issue a large-scale OTA update for the system.
The move comes after Tesla (BYD’s fiercest rival) users recently complained that the vehicles’ safety systems are underperforming to avert mishaps. Tesla has also started a driverless ride-hailing service to mixed reviews.
