Ncell brings free Facebook, internet browsing on its network

Ncell has launched free Facebook Basic Mode and internet browsing services for its customers in Nepal. That means users with an Ncell SIM card on their phone can now access the social network and browse the web even without a mobile balance or data pack.

The free access service comes through Ncell’s strategic partnership with US-based Meta, Facebook’s parent company. Broadly speaking, the initiation aligns with Ncell’s ongoing Sadhain ON campaign to keep its users connected always on.

Users even in urban areas with wide broadband coverage tend to get unconnected. Also, users get out of data service due to the lack of mobile balance or when their data pack is used up. Therefore, Ncell launched two new products- Facebook Basic Mode and Discover to enable users to continue using Facebook and browsing the internet even when they don’t have a mobile balance or an active data plan.

“We strongly believe that this initiative contributes to increasing internet adoption in Nepal and ensures that some basic services remain available on our customers’ mobile devices as part of our Sadhain ON campaign. Collaborated efforts like this will take a significant stride towards the achievement of the objective of a digitally inclusive Nepal,” said Umair Mohsin, Chief Commercial Officer of Ncell.

Use free Facebook on Ncell SIM

Mobile users with an Ncell SIM card on their devices get free Facebook and internet browsing access. Discover lets users browse the internet in text-only mode while Facebook Basic Mode lets users access the social network with text and pictures. Ncell says that the Fair Usage Policy (FUP) applies in both of these use cases.

You can download Discover from the Facebook mobile app to start text-based browsing when your Ncell SIM card has no balance or data packs. Despite not allowing audio and video, you can stay connected and be updated with the current affairs on the go. It lets you browse any website, however, it won’t support data-intensive content while using without balance or data pack.

Discover contains bookmarks to the websites of the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA) and the World Health Organization (WHO), to provide relevant reliable health and safety information accessible to people.

Likewise, Facebook Basic Mode provides free connectivity with text and images. However, when a data pack or balance is used, the social network becomes available in its full function.

If you are on a Ncell network and want free Facebook and web browsing, it’s within your access now. It should be handy when you are traveling or out of your residence and want to stay updated without costing a dime or exhausting your data pack.
