Mayor Balen Sah Announces New Policies for Kathmandu Metro

The newly-elected Mayor of Kathmandu Metropolitan Balen Sah has announced a range of new policies for Kathmandu. This includes Free WiFi, digital fare transactions, and the installation of CCTV cameras in offices. Find out more in detail below.

Sah said that free Wi-Fi will be provided by making public the policy and program of the fiscal year 2079/80 through the Municipal Assembly and 11th Convention.

The Free WiFi service will be set up in the vicinity of the municipality office and other public places. After this, people within the coverage will be able to connect to free networks on their devices.

The decision is part of Balendra Sah aka Balen, to implement decisions that aim at improving the daily public life of the people under his governmentโ€™s jurisdiction. He has pledged to clean up the city of the garbage, broadcast the executive meetings, and make his policies tech-friendly.

Besides free WiFi in Kathamandu city, there are other digital reinforcements taking place. At the same event, the popular Mayor Sah announced the decision to introduce electronic fare transactions in public transport. As per the planned policy, public vehicles plying the roads in the Metro will arrange for digital fare payment from next FY. Mayor said the local government will start working on it soon.

Likewise in other decisions, the metro will also install CCTV cameras in all the offices within the city. The decision is part of the Digital Urban Security policy. For this, Kathmandu Metro will coordinate with Nepal Police. ย 

The government expects the CCTV cameras will help cater a more efficient service to the people and keep everyone alert. All the offices within the Metro will be under the surveillance of the CCTV cameras.

Similarly, the local government has decided to arrange for a program to allow direct interaction with the newly-elected Mayor. The program will be organized on the first Sunday of every month. ย 

These policies will come under gradual implementation with the beginning of the upcoming Fiscal Year 2079/80 BS.
