Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited has launched an LPG ATM system to address the cooking gas crunch in the country. The initiative has been launched as a pilot project in Gurugram, Haryana. The innovative machine works 24 hours.
How does LPG ATM work in India?
The LPG ATM in India works with the power of digital technology. Users need to register their names using an OTP for verification. They need to scan the barcode or QR on the cylinder. Then, they can pay via UPI, credit/debit card, or cash and bring home a fully filled cylinder. The whole process takes just about 2-4 minutes.
The machine can accommodate 10 LPG cylinders at once. Likewise, a system has been implemented that sends a notification to a nearby gas agency when the stock runs out.

India, like most other countries are facing an energy shortage due to the ongoing crisis involving the US/Israel and Iran. The conflict has led to a broader geopolitical confrontation culminating in the current energy crisis.
The LPG ATM should help with a proper and fair distribution system. But it’s currently practiced in a small area with possible expansion into more areas in the near future.
